Follow along through the challenges of fatherhood and fitness

Follow me as I grow as a father, continue to improve my fitness, and hopefully continue losing weight towards my goal of 60lbs (10lbs to go! 8.25.12).

I never set out to be overweight but I love beer, wine, scotch, and all sorts of terrible food. I didn't choose to get out of shape it just sort of happened. All that changed when I found out my wife was pregnant in December 2010. I decided it was time to set myself up to be a fitdad not a fatdad.

No one ever said it would be easy though. Dealing with a newborn and trying to continue exercising as well as being there for my wife as her husband and friend. As our son gets older and our family grows what impact will that have on my fitness and diet? Stay tuned to find out! Subscribe via email, or add me to your reader. Please make sure to share on twitter, facebook, or follow along by adding your email to my list.

Do you have a diet or exercise product you would like reviewed in the blog, please contact me at fitdadorfatdad@gmail.com

RW Streak Day 5.

Runner's World RunSTREAK Day 5.

Raining pretty consistently here and I have Noah while Christine goes to spin class.  3.11 Miles 24:44.  5 minute warmup, 5 minute cooldown.  Did a decreasing incline, increasing speed run, it's a workout I created for the treadmill that I like doing because it's just not flat (kind of like the real world).  I start on an incline of 4 or 5, then at each mile marker I decrease the incline by 1 or 2 and then add in more speed.  I started out today at an incline of 4 and speed of 7.3mph.  Mile two I dropped the incline to 2.5 and ramped the speed to 7.6mph.  For mile three I dropped the incline to 0.5 and bumped the speed to 8.0 for a half mile, then bumped it up again to 8.3 for a quarter mile.  The final .36mile I ran at 9mph...and I was HUFFING and PUFFING.  A really great workout before I head to work today.

I feel like I am becoming a practice hero, I need to get out and run more races.

Going to try for an early morning running tomorrow, this will be the first outside test for the new shoes and a review is pending.

Happy Running everyone, Have a great weekend!
