Follow along through the challenges of fatherhood and fitness

Follow me as I grow as a father, continue to improve my fitness, and hopefully continue losing weight towards my goal of 60lbs (10lbs to go! 8.25.12).

I never set out to be overweight but I love beer, wine, scotch, and all sorts of terrible food. I didn't choose to get out of shape it just sort of happened. All that changed when I found out my wife was pregnant in December 2010. I decided it was time to set myself up to be a fitdad not a fatdad.

No one ever said it would be easy though. Dealing with a newborn and trying to continue exercising as well as being there for my wife as her husband and friend. As our son gets older and our family grows what impact will that have on my fitness and diet? Stay tuned to find out! Subscribe via email, or add me to your reader. Please make sure to share on twitter, facebook, or follow along by adding your email to my list.

Do you have a diet or exercise product you would like reviewed in the blog, please contact me at fitdadorfatdad@gmail.com

Resolute.

I have never been much of a New Years Resolution person.  Not that there is anything wrong with making resolutions, but it seems as though most people don't keep them, or they set some unattainable goal that will take more than a year to accomplish and give up when they realize they won't reach their goal.

"I'm resolving to be a better person." (Why?  shouldn't you just do that normally?)

"I'm resolving to lose weight." (do you really need a new year to decide that?)

"I'm resolving to go to church more." (I should probably do that...)

"I'm resolving to eat more cookies." (now that is a solid resolution)

"I'm resolving to drink less alcohol." (it's empty calories...)

"I'm resolving to be less mean to people." (Me mean? NEVER.)

I'm not trying to harp on anyone making resolutions but I just don't like the idea of people resolving things at the New Year because usually it just sets people up to fail or quit.  If you are resolving to lose weight in the new year understand that you have a huge commitment in front of you.  You need to change your mindset entirely.  If you plan on just dieting to lose weight you are never going to be satisfied with the results because eventually when you quit your diet you are just going to gain the weight back.  If you resolve to be healthier, exercise more, or eat better it should be something that you commit to for the rest of your life not just because it felt right on New Years Eve.

I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe New Years celebration.  I wish you all the health, wealth, happiness, and weight loss you work to achieve this year!

Happy New Year!
